First, the location. The Vale d’ Évora Estate is situated just a few kilometers from the beautiful town of Mértola, in lower Alentejo. It is part of the Guadiana Valley Natural Park, and benefits from a landscape of great beauty, marked by its ample, rolling hills, native vegetation, and the Guadiana River, which winds throughout.
Along the property’s 550 hectares are plantations of stone pine, holm oak, strawberry trees, and a vineyard: the Discórdia vineyard.
The Discórdia vineyard, on a total area of 10 hectares, is a vineyard that overlooks the wild landscape of the Vale d’ Évora Estate. The vines are planted in schist soils with low fertility. The resemblance to the Douro, in the arid land and harsh climate of this region, makes it a vineyard on the edge and in a fight for survival, resulting in airy fruit, with a good concentration and structure. The proximity to the Guadiana River imparts the touch of acidity which is so important to the balanced finish of the wine.
